Okay I gotta share this really craaayyy cray thing that's been hanging off the walls and on the ceilings in my humble abode. Literally. & it's a bug.
MY FIRST ENCOUNTER
I was getting ready to sleep, when I saw this little seed-like thingmajig struggling on my wall at the opposite end of my room. Y'know like those melon seeds you eat during Chinese New Year, just... smaller.
I JUST HAD TO CHECK IT OUT!
& I GOT THE SHOCK OF MY LIFE?! (((゜д゜;)))
& MY EXPRESSION WAS TOTALLY LIKE THIS:
I mean... seriously, wtf is this odd little creation?
So anyway, I wanted to show it to Bf Lee the next day and kept it in a container. But I got so excited the next morning that I showed it to my mum, who showed it to my dad, who threw it away (T▽T;)
& it did a little something in the container, which made my mum and I shit heavy bricks. If you had noticed in the first image above, I wrote "Entrance/Exit". That should give you a good idea LOL.
You don't have to watch the entire thing, just from 0:10 to about 0:35.
& I found a dead one on the ceiling at some random corner of my loo, where it was attached to a spider web.
There was indeed, a spider, but this plaster bagworm didn't look like it was eaten up or anything.
So I googled and found out that it mainly feeds on spider webs
Aish... I thought spiders will help me get rid of pests (ノ◇≦。)
That's why my family usually just leaves spiders alone. Looks like it has met its match!
I was damn curious about the cocoon, so I dissected it.
EMPTY. The cocoon felt a little like... paper, but it's apparently made of silk!? No wonder it smelled like burnt natural fibers when I... accidentally... burned a hole in one. (;´▽`A``
I wanted to know if it would EVER come out of the cocoon, so I placed a flame just 3cm above it. It scurried out midway, but went back in as soon as I extinguished the flame. So I tried it again, it refused to come out, I placed it a little nearer... a little too close, perhaps.
The flame melted a hole in the middle of the cocoon and I immediately identified the smell as natural fiber.
WHAT NATURAL FIBER SMELL?? HOW YOU KNOW?
Because I studied fashion. Fiber burning tests are a way to verify if fabrics are made up of certain components like cotton, wool, polyester, nylon, rayon, acrylics etc., because they have different characteristics when burnt. Some vendors might try to pull off their fabrics as 100% cotton/wool/silk as they're expensive, but actually they're a polyester blend or something. However, a burning test might be insufficient if the synthetic component is very little like 20%.
Okay back to the Plaster Bagworm. It supposedly forms into a kind of moth, which my mum claimed to have seen when she did some cleaning around the house.
Aight, now that I've passed on my jitty bittys to those of you who have just read this, I CAN SLEEP IN PEACE!
≧(´▽`)≦
It's a little like the lotus boob maggot larvae thing I came across last time, LOL MY GOD I STILL HATE IT! Don't know who's the sicko who came up with that myth...
